Chinese restaurant owner donates profits to save friend’s son

Fu Gaochan, born in the 1990s, is the owner of a suanlafen (hot and sour rice noodles) restaurant in Zhengzhou, central China’s Henan Province. He used to live an ordinary life, just like thousands of others in the city, until he decided to donate all the money he earned to his friend’s leukemia-stricken son, who lives back in their hometown Zhoukou city.

Since the 3-year-old boy was diagnosed with leukemia, his family has spent all their savings in an attempt to save his life. To help them out, Fu began to donate the profits of his restaurant in April.
“One bowl of hot and sour rice noodles to save one life” – this is the slogan that Fu put in front of his restaurant to attract more customers. After his deeds were reported by Chinese media, Fu’s 10-square-meter restaurant has seen a heavy flow of customers, many of whom paid from 50 to 500 yuan for a 6-yuan bowl of hot and sour rice noodles. All these extra donations from customers were carefully written down by Fu on a notebook.
By this Monday, Fu had raised nearly 50,000 yuan (7,800 US dollars) for the boy.
